Dr. Shankar Iyer is one of the most respected and widely recognised authorities in implant dentistry and prosthodontics in the world. With a career spanning decades, he has trained over 6,000 dentists across 36 countries and delivered more than 200 presentations at international symposia — a testament to both his clinical mastery and his commitment to advancing the profession globally. Dr. Iyer serves as Past President of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) — the highest elected position in the organisation — and continues to serve as Scientific Chair at its Annual Meetings. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, in addition to holding fellowships in the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontists and the Dental Facial Esthetics Academy. Academically, Dr. Iyer holds dual appointments in the Departments of Periodontics and Prosthodontics at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, New Jersey, where he serves as Clinical Associate Professor. He previously taught as a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU's Department of Post Graduate Prosthodontics for several years. He serves as Director of the prestigious AAID Implant Maxicourse in Asia, with active centres in Abu Dhabi and Bangalore, and co-directs Maxicourse programmes at Rutgers University, Nova Southeastern University (Florida), Roseman University (Utah), Newport Beach (California), and Egypt — making him one of the most prolific implant educators operating across multiple continents simultaneously. Dr. Iyer completed his dental education at Annamalai University, India in 1987, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery in Prosthodontics from GDC Mumbai in 1990. He subsequently graduated with honours from New York University College of Dentistry and completed his postgraduate studies in Prosthodontics at the same institution.
